Fiverr's Success Score is the metric most sellers understand least and most need to understand most. It was introduced in 2024, it directly affects how often your gigs appear in search results, and it includes buyer feedback that you cannot see. That combination makes it both important and opaque, which is why so much bad advice circulates about it.
This guide covers how the score is actually calculated, which behaviours reliably move it, which common "fix your Success Score" tactics do nothing, and how to think about the private feedback component you cannot directly observe.
What the Success Score actually is
Each of your gigs has its own Success Score, rated from 1 to 10. The score is Fiverr's composite evaluation of how well that specific gig is performing across six dimensions: client satisfaction, communication quality, order quality, revision handling, dispute resolution, and delivery experience.
The score is not your public star rating. A gig can have a 4.9-star public rating and a Success Score of 6 because the public rating reflects what buyers chose to say publicly, while the Success Score reflects what buyers told Fiverr privately in response to questions they were asked after the order completed. Fiverr does not show sellers these private responses. The score is calculated from them, not from your public reviews.
The score also benchmarks you against comparable sellers. Fiverr compares your score to other sellers in the same price range and category rather than against the entire platform. A seller charging $50 for logo design is compared to other $50 logo designers, not to $500 logo designers. This means strong delivery relative to your price point matters more than absolute delivery quality measured against all sellers.
Recent performance is weighted more heavily than historical performance. A difficult stretch of orders in the last 60 days affects your score more significantly than the same number of difficult orders spread across 12 months.
The six dimensions — what each one actually measures
Client satisfaction captures the overall buyer experience — whether the delivered work met or exceeded what was expected based on the gig description and requirements. This is the broadest dimension and carries the most weight. Buyers who received work that matched what was described generate positive signal here. Buyers who received work that surprised them negatively, even if they accepted the delivery without complaining publicly, generate negative signal.
Communication quality measures responsiveness, clarity, and professionalism in how you interacted with the buyer throughout the order. Not just response rate — the quality of the responses. A seller who responds quickly but sends unclear or unhelpful messages scores differently from one who responds with specific, relevant information. Buyers are asked after the order whether communication met their expectations.
Order quality measures the technical and craft quality of the delivered work relative to what was promised. This dimension is most influenced by whether what you delivered was genuinely good at the price point, not just technically compliant with the brief.
Revision handling measures how you managed revision requests — whether you addressed them clearly, professionally, and within the revised deliverable. Sellers who handle revisions with friction, who push back on legitimate revision requests in ways buyers find unpleasant, or who deliver revisions that do not fully address the feedback score poorly here even when their initial delivery was strong.
Dispute resolution measures how you handled situations where the order went wrong. Cancellations, unresolved revisions, and escalations to the resolution centre all create signal in this dimension. Sellers who handle difficult situations professionally — who acknowledge issues rather than deflecting, who propose solutions rather than defending positions — score better than those who do not even when the underlying dispute was not their fault.
Delivery experience measures the overall experience of receiving the work — how it was packaged, whether it was explained, whether the buyer knew what to do with it. A delivered logo file sent with no context about formats or usage scores differently from the same file delivered with a brief guide on where each format is used and how to apply brand guidelines consistently.
What reliably moves the score upward
Deliver before the deadline on every order. On-time delivery is the most straightforwardly controllable Success Score input. Late deliveries create negative signal in delivery experience and, often, client satisfaction. Set your delivery times to what you can hit on your worst week, not your best.
Communicate progress on longer orders without being asked. A brief message at the midpoint of a three-day order — "Working on the design now, on track for tomorrow" — creates a positive communication quality signal that would not exist if the buyer received only silence until delivery. It takes 15 seconds. It matters in the private feedback.
Handle revisions immediately and warmly. The revision handling dimension is where sellers lose score they do not expect to lose. A buyer who requested a revision that was addressed slowly, grudgingly, or incompletely will reflect that in private feedback even if they accepted the final revision without comment. Treat the revision as a continuation of the project, not a setback.
Include context with your delivery. Do not send just the files. Send a brief delivery message that explains what is included, how to use it, what formats are provided and what each is for, and a specific invitation to ask questions. This lifts delivery experience and client satisfaction simultaneously.
Exceed the brief in small ways. Client satisfaction is the heaviest-weighted dimension. The reliable way to generate consistently positive private feedback there is to deliver something slightly beyond what was explicitly requested — an additional variation, a usage guide, a small element the brief implied but did not specify. Buyers who receive something they did not expect consistently rate their private experience higher than buyers who received exactly what they asked for.
What does not move the score
Asking buyers to leave a positive review. Public reviews and the Success Score are separate systems. Asking buyers to "leave a five-star review" does not affect the private feedback they give Fiverr. The private feedback is collected independently, often through questions buyers answer without explicitly thinking of it as a review.
Changing your gig title or description. The Success Score evaluates how you performed on orders. Changes to your gig page change what future buyers see but do not affect the score calculation from past orders.
Completing more orders quickly. Volume alone does not improve your score. Twenty mediocre deliveries in a month do not produce a better score than five excellent ones. The score is an average of quality signals, not a total of them. Racing through orders to build volume while letting delivery quality slip is one of the most reliable ways to sink a Success Score.
Cancelling the orders that might hurt you. Sellers sometimes consider cancelling a difficult order rather than delivering and risking a bad outcome. Cancellations also affect the score — through the dispute resolution dimension and the completion rate signal. A difficult order delivered professionally, even if the buyer's private feedback is not perfect, usually produces less score damage than a cancellation.
The private feedback problem
The honest challenge with the Success Score is that you cannot directly observe the input that drives it. You can see your public ratings. You cannot see what buyers told Fiverr privately.
The practical approach is to treat every completed order as if the private debrief happens immediately after. Because it does. Fiverr asks buyers a series of questions shortly after the order completes, while the experience is still fresh. The buyer's answers to those questions become your score data for that order.
The questions Fiverr asks are not published, but the score dimensions above tell you what they are evaluating. Was the work as described? Was communication clear? Were revisions handled well? Was delivery on time? Was the experience of receiving the work professional? Those are the questions. Every order you deliver either answers them positively or does not.
Sellers who consistently answer them positively — through the specific behaviours described above — build Success Scores that reflect that consistency. Sellers who deliver technically adequate work but create friction in communication, revisions, or delivery see scores that do not match their public ratings.
