Placing an order on Fiverr takes under five minutes once you have found the right seller. The part that takes more time — and produces significantly better outcomes — is the seller selection and brief preparation before you click the order button.

This guide walks through the full process: how to find and evaluate sellers, when to message before ordering, how to place the order, what to include in your requirements, and what to expect after the order is placed.

Step 1: Finding the Right Gig

Go to Fiverr.com and use the search bar to search for the service you need. Use specific language where possible — "minimalist logo for restaurant" finds more relevant results than "logo design" for a buyer who knows what they want.

Filter results by the factors that matter for your project:

Seller level. Level 2 and Top Rated Sellers have completed more orders, maintained better metrics, and passed more performance evaluations than New Sellers. For important projects, filtering to Level 2 or above is worth the slightly smaller result set.

Budget. Fiverr allows filtering by price range. Set a range that reflects what the outcome is actually worth to you, not just what you hope to spend. The cheapest option in any professional service category on Fiverr rarely produces the outcome a more appropriately-priced seller would.

Delivery time. If your project has a real deadline, filter by the delivery time required. Sellers who list a delivery time of five days and have it in their package are committing to that timeline — it is not an estimate.

Step 2: Evaluating a Seller Before Ordering

Once you have narrowed to a few gigs worth considering, spend five to ten minutes evaluating each one properly.

Portfolio samples. Click through to see the seller's previous work. Do the samples match the quality you need? Do they reflect the style or output type your project requires? If the portfolio is empty or shows work you would not be satisfied receiving, move on.

Written reviews. Read a selection of written reviews beyond the star rating. Patterns in review language tell you more than the aggregate score. Multiple buyers mentioning "delivered exactly what was described" or "great communication throughout" signal consistency. Multiple reviews mentioning "took multiple revisions" or "had to follow up several times" tell you something different.

Response rate and response time. Visible on the seller's profile. A response rate below 90% or a response time measured in days suggests the seller may be less attentive during the project than you want.

Gig description. Does the description clearly state what is included? Are the deliverables, revisions, and timeline explicit? Vague descriptions produce scope disputes; specific ones do not.

Step 3: Message First for Projects Above $50

For any project above roughly $50, or for any project with specific requirements that are harder to communicate in a brief, sending a pre-order message is worth the extra step.

Click the seller's profile, find the "Contact Me" button, and send a short message describing your project and asking one or two specific questions. The quality of the reply tells you how the actual project interaction will feel.

Sellers who respond quickly, specifically, and clearly to a pre-order message are demonstrating the same attentiveness they will apply to your order. Sellers who reply slowly or generically are showing you how project communications will likely proceed.

You are not obligated to order after messaging. The message is a free evaluation that can save you significant money and frustration.

Step 4: Choosing Your Package

Once you have identified the seller and the gig, decide which package tier (Basic, Standard, or Premium) fits your project scope.

Read each tier's description carefully before selecting. The differences between tiers are not just price — they typically include different revision counts, different delivery timelines, and different included deliverables (such as source files, commercial licences, or additional formats).

If the standard packages do not fit your scope precisely, most sellers offer custom offers. Message the seller, describe your project, and ask for a custom quote. This is particularly useful for larger projects or unusual requirements.

Step 5: Placing the Order

Click "Order Now" on the package you have selected. You will be prompted to:

Complete payment. Fiverr accepts credit cards, PayPal, and other payment methods. The total shown includes the gig price plus Fiverr's service fee (5.5% of the order value, minimum $2).

Fill in the requirements. After payment, you are taken to the requirements section that the seller has set up. Fill in every field as specifically as possible. This information is what the seller uses to start work. Vague requirements produce vague results.

If a field asks for "your preferred style or reference links," include actual links to examples you like, not descriptions of what you like. Visual references communicate more precisely than written descriptions in most creative categories.

If a field asks for "your target audience," be specific. "Small business owners aged 35 to 50 who are starting their first product business" is more useful than "businesses."

Mark required fields complete and submit. The seller receives your requirements and the order officially begins.

What Happens After You Place the Order

The seller's delivery clock starts when you submit your requirements. The deadline shown in your order dashboard reflects the delivery time from the package you purchased.

You can communicate through the order page. The order has its own message thread where you and the seller can exchange information, clarify requirements, or check in on progress.

You receive a delivery notification when the seller submits the work through Fiverr's official delivery system. You then have three days to review and either accept or request a revision.

If you need changes, use the "Request Revision" button in the order to send specific feedback. Describe exactly what needs to change, not just that you are unhappy. "The colour palette feels too warm — I would like to see a version using the blues and greens from my brand guidelines" gives the seller something specific to act on.

If you are happy with the delivery, click "Accept Delivery" to complete the order and release the payment to the seller. You can then leave a review — the public star rating and written review are visible to future buyers and help other buyers make informed decisions.

If Something Goes Wrong

Revision requests. If the delivery does not match the requirements you specified, request a revision with specific feedback. Most sellers will address legitimate revision requests promptly.

Disputes. If a seller delivers work that clearly does not match what was specified and revision requests are not resolving the issue, use Fiverr's Resolution Centre (accessed through the order page) to escalate the dispute.

Cancellations. If you need to cancel, initiate a mutual cancellation request through the Resolution Centre. The seller must agree. If they do not, the dispute escalates to Fiverr's review process.

Fiverr's escrow system means your money is held until you approve the delivery. A seller who fails to deliver cannot receive payment without your acceptance.
